Sports for All: Sindh minister announces sports bouts for transgenders, prisoners

KARACHI, Jan 21 (APP):Sindh Sports Minister Muhammad Bukhsh Mahar, Tuesday, announced to organize inclusive sports events round the year 2025 under the slogan of ‘Sports for All’.These events will promote sports for special children, hold events in prisons and for the first time feature transgender competitions.
He was addressing a ceremony held at the Karachi Youth Club under the Sports Department to honor the Sindh athletes who won medals in the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games Islamabad, said a statement issued here.
The sports minister said that sports are a sign of a healthy society and there is no shortage of talent in Sindh that is evident from their good performance in inter-provincial sports event.
He said that the Sindh Sports Department’s slogan of this year is “Sports for All” and for the first time in the history of Pakistan, sports competitions will also be organized for transgenders.
Moreover, the minister assured better training facilities to the players of the province along with training abroad and hoped that Sindh players will continue to provide better results in the future.
The minister appreciated associations for efforts towards promotion of sports and said that we will also take steps for the welfare of former players of the province.
Secretary Sports Abdul Aleem Lashari, in his welcome speech stated that the Sindh team ranked third in the games by winning a total of 79 medals. Female and male athletes of the province bagged 16 gold, 28 silver and 45 bronze medals in 26 disciplines of 15 sports.
As a token of appreciation, the sports department awarded a prize of Rs100,000 to the gold medalist, Rs75,000 to the silver medal winner and Rs50,000 to the athlete stood third and won the bronze.
Sindh Assembly Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Saima Agha, former international female athlete Naseem Hameed, international athlete Moeed Baloch, Chief Engineer Aslam Mahar, Sindh Olympic Association Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput, Farid Ali, Ismail Shah, Hajra Nawab and others attended the ceremony.
