LAHORE, Jul 29 (APP):A significant milestone in special education was achieved on Tuesday as the Special Education Department Punjab and the British Council signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to strengthen international collaboration in the sector.
The historic agreement, the first of its kind in Punjab’s history, reflects the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure every child receives access to education, healthcare, and a life of dignity.
On the occasion, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Special Education Sania Ashiq briefed Country Director British Council James Hampson on the Punjab government’s initiatives for children with special needs. She emphasized that the education and training of special children remain a top priority, and highlighted the need for an international teacher training exchange program. “We are keen to benefit from the UK’s experience in autism care and inclusive education,” she said.
During the event, Awards of Excellence were conferred on the heads of leading special education institutions under the School Connect Program. The British Council also pledged full technical assistance to support Punjab’s efforts in special education.
Country Director James Hampson stated, “We will fully cooperate in setting a new path of empowerment for special children in Punjab.”
