LAHORE, Jul 17 (APP):The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised growers to take necessary measures to protect cotton crop from negative impact of monsoon rains.
A spokesman for the department said here on Thursday that excessive rains were not good for cotton. He said, “Weeds grow rapidly in rainy weather and chances of attack of juice sucking insects also increases.”
Spokesman said that in case of excessive rain water farmers should drain it immediately as if it remains in crop it puts negative impact on roots and plants start withering after 48 hours. He further said, “If water remains in cotton crop for more than 24 hours it stops growth of plant.” He suggested the farmers to contact agriculture department in case of any query.
