KARACHI, Dec 17 (APP): Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi Wednesday said that special arrangements are being made for fool-proof security, cleanliness and the provision of civic amenities around churches on Christmas.
He said this in a meeting participated by the delegation of First United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan at his office.
He directed all Deputy Commissioners to take measures in their respective districts, in consultation and coordination with the Christian community and church administrators, to ensure security, cleanliness, civic facilities and the arrangement for the traffic flow at churches during the Christmas period.
He added that the police and other security agencies, the Karachi Municipal Corporation, town municipal corporation, cantonment boards, Water and Sewerage Board, Solid Waste Management Authority and traffic police have been directed to take priority actions.
These include ensuring special cleaning around churches, functional street lights and smooth traffic flow during Christmas celebrations.
The KE has also been asked to avoid load-shedding at all churches on Christmas.
On this occasion, a delegation from the First United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan briefed the commissioner about the Christmas peace rally organized by the Christian community on 21st December.
The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner (East) to provide the necessary facilities for the rally. The delegation included Chairman of Rapha Mission International, Pastor Suleman Manzoor, former Senator Anwar Lal Dean and others.
Meanwhile, on the Commissioner’s directive Additional Commissioner One Ghulam Mehdi Shah held a meeting with senior officials of the relevant departments to review the arrangements for Christmas celebrations at churches.
The Additional Commissioner directed the concerned departments to take the necessary steps to provide civic amenities and support the events at the churches.
