LAHORE, Oct 16 (APP): EPA Punjab (Environmental Protection Department) has taken a big decision for environmental protection and sustainable development and announced that no new housing society will be approved in Punjab unless a place is allocated for a water treatment plant in its layout plan.
DG Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh says that housing societies that discharge untreated wastewater have become a serious threat to the environment and human health, now environmental approval will be given to any new scheme only if the design and allocated space of the water treatment plant are clearly presented.
Approval of new housing societies has been made conditional, it has been made mandatory to allocate space for water treatment plants in the layout plan of each scheme. He said there has been a strict ban on the discharge of untreated wastewater, legal action will be taken if the land of the treatment plant is used for any other purpose.
Meanwhile, the EPA has directed strict implementation in the approval process, formal orders have been issued to all development authorities and deputy commissioners.
