KARACHI, Feb 03 (APP): The Department of Admissions and Examinations of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) organised the Orientation for Spring 2026 on Tuesday at the Shahnawaz Auditorium, to welcome newly admitted students and acquaint them with the university’s academic framework, institutional legacy, policies, and student support systems.
Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor warmly welcomed them and emphasized that admission to a public sector university is both a privilege and a responsibility, noting that nearly 75% of the cost of education is borne by the state. He emphasized that only a small percentage of Pakistan’s youth reach tertiary education, making their presence at the university a matter of pride and expectation.
He urged students to honor this public investment through discipline, academic seriousness, and ethical conduct. Drawing from his own life experience, the Vice Chancellor shared how limited opportunities, delayed admissions, and lack of communication defined student life in earlier decades. He urged them to recognize this advantage and use their time wisely, avoiding complacency and delay.
The Vice Chancellor reminded students that they are part of a historic institution founded in 1885 by Hassanally Effendi, where history, identity, and responsibility converge. He stressed that modern universities go beyond degree awarding and play a vital role in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship through platforms such as ORIC.
He advised students to reflect deeply on their chosen disciplines, to engage in honest self-assessment, and to commit wholeheartedly to their academic paths over the next four years.
During the different orientation sessions, students were briefed on the vision and mission of SMIU, academic programs, discipline and facilities by Deans and Chairpersons of academic departments including Dr Jamshed Halepoto, Dr Abdul Hafeez Khan, Dr Stephen John, Dr Subhash Guriro, Muzaffar Ali Shah, Wafa Mansoor Buriro, Ms Saima Sippy Nangraj and others. Ms Zonaira Jalali, Program Manager Student Affairs & Counselling, briefed students on the historic legacy of SMIU.
Students were informed that classes will commence on 9th February 2026, with a course drop deadline of 23rd February 2026. Mid-term examinations will be held from 6th to 12th April 2026, followed by final examinations from 8th to 14th June 2026, and result announcement on 22nd June 2026. Academic policies, student facilities, and rules and regulations were also shared to ensure clarity regarding academic responsibilities and institutional expectations.
