KARACHI, Oct 29 (APP):Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeeb Sahrai on Wednesday said that Pakistan and Turkiye have historical relations and an endless friendship, that has been tested on various occasions including during the wars, peace and cooperation in technical fields.
Addressing the celebration of Turkiye Republic Day, which was organized by the SMIU, Dr. Sahrai said he had recently attended a seminar in Istanbul which was organized by the Government of Turkiye and its Istanbul University on Abdul Rehman Peshawari, who had participated in the independence war of Turkiye. It shows historic relationship of both brethren countries, he said and added that he also witnessed great respect, love and honour for Pakistan and its people from the people of Turkiye.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said ‘we have strong roots of friendship with Turkiye, that is why the Government of Pakistan, provincial Government of Sindh and other institutions are celebrating Republic Day of Turkiye. “Today we are celebrating our relationship with Turkiye,” the Vice Chancellor of SMIU said and added that Sindh Madressatul Islam has also close relations with Turkiye, which are spread over 135 years, when the founder of Sindh Madressatul Islam Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi had supported the Ottoman Empire in its war with Russia. Later on the Ottoman Empire had given him a responsibility of Counsel General in Karachi and had awarded with the titles “Bey” and “Effendi.” Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said that even today the SMIU and Turkiye have maintained such historic relations.
He said the SMIU and the TIKA, an organisation of the Government of Turkiye, were working to jointly establish Pak-Turkish Research Centre at SMIU, that will work for promotion of culture of both countries and also in the field of education and research. He also informed that the Turkish language will be offered to the students of SMIU and other institutes. Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai appreciated former Turkish Counsel General in Karachi Cemal Sangu for his sincere services for strengthening relationship of Turkiye with Pakistan. “He was also a regular visitor of SMIU and had made strong association with this historic institution,” Dr. Sahrai commented.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai emphasized that the students of SMIU must carry on this rich legacy in their future lives. He said SMIU has always played a significant role in quality education as well as providing opportunities to its students to exhibit their qualities, creativity and innovative ideas on the plate form of student societies. These kind of activities also relating them with their rich history.
Dean of SMIU Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto and students also spoke on the occasion. The students also performed on mystic songs.
