SIUT becomes largest public sector healthcare institute of South Asia: CM Sindh

KARACHI, Jun 13 (APP):Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday said with the support of the provincial government, Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) has grown into one of the largest public sector healthcare organization of South Asia providing facilities in urology, nephrology, transplantation and hepato-gastroenterology, oncology and pediatrics.
In his budget speech, the Chief Minister said in the last 54 years of its journey, SIUT has touched the lives of over 35 million patients. He said the SIUT has now grown into a 1,600-bedded comprehensive healthcare system with 82
departments. With approximately 400 dialysis machines, SIUT is the largest dialysis center in the country, catering to 30% of Pakistan’s and 60% of Sindh’s total dialysis cases, Murad added.
He said, having performed over 7,500 kidney transplants to date, the SIUT is the largest kidney transplant center in the country, offering lifelong follow-up and free medication.With five lithotripters, SIUT is the leading facility for the treatment of stone disease in Pakistan, he said, adding that the institute operates five surgical robots to provide state-of-the-art robotic surgeries for both urban and rural populations. Recently, SIUT successfully performed Pakistan’s first Harmony trans catheter pulmonary valve implantation in a child.
He said, in the current financial year, the SIUT has provided free treatment with dignity to over 4.2 million patients across 10 centers. He said over 70% of these patients were from the province of Sindh.
The Chief Minister said Govt has proposed budget estimates for all healthcare institutes including SIUT and Rs. 19 billion has been proposed for Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation Karachi (SIUT) for next financial year starting from July 01, 2025.
