KARACHI, Oct 28 (APP):The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi Police has arrested two members of a robbery gang involved in looting families returning from abroad. The suspects were arrested during a raid in the Garden area following a tip-off, according to SSP SIU Amjad Ahmed Shaikh on Tuesday.
Amjad Shaikh said the gang had been active in various parts of Karachi, particularly targeting families coming from the airport. The suspects identified as Hammad and Haider used rented cars and posed as policemen, wearing police caps and T-shirts, to deceive and loot their victims.
During the raid, police recovered weapons and several stolen mobile phones from the suspects. The SSP said the gang used to follow families returning from abroad, robbing them of cash, jewelry, and mobile phones.
The suspects confessed to multiple robberies this year, including a major incident involving a family returning from overseas. In that case, the gang made off with gold jewelry, £2,000 in cash, and mobile phones.
The suspects also admitted to several earlier robberies, including incidents in Taimuria, where they snatched €220 and a mobile phone, and in Naghan Chowrangi in 2022, where they looted a citizen of Rs20,000 and a valuable phone. Another robbery was reported at Five Star Chowrangi, and yet another at KDA Chowrangi, where a woman was deprived of her phone and cash.
SSP Amjad Shaikh added that multiple cases of robbery and theft were already registered against the suspects. Raids are underway to arrest their remaining accomplices, and further interrogation was underway.
