Sindh launches province-wide anti-dengue, malaria drive

KARACHI, Oct 17 (APP):The Health Department Sindh has launched a province-wide anti-dengue, malaria drive for awareness of the people about precautionary measures to stop the spread of viruses.
Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechohu directed to launch of such a drive to curb the spread of dengue and malaria cases across the province.
According to the Health Department, the Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) Wing of the Directorate General Health Services (DGHS) Sindh has issued urgent directives to all District Health Officers (DHOs), local government institutions, and relevant departments to intensify preventive measures on an emergency basis.
Dr Azra Pechuho stated that “The Government of Sindh has mobilized all its resources to control dengue and malaria. Over 200,000 malaria and 819 dengue cases have been reported across Sindh this year. Spraying, fogging, and awareness programs must be conducted daily in every district. Public cooperation is essential to overcome dengue and everyone must play their part, health officials said.
Banners, pamphlets, and information materials are being displayed prominently at hospitals, schools, markets, bus stands, and courts to educate the public on preventive steps.
All DHOs were instructed to coordinate with local governments to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, ensure cleanliness in homes and streets, and prevent water stagnation. Lady Health Workers have been tasked with conducting door-to-door awareness sessions at the community level.
Dr Pechuho further emphasized that “Dengue is a preventable disease. With proper hygiene and precautionary measures, this outbreak can be controlled swiftly. Health teams are working around the clock to protect citizens.”
