LAHORE, Oct 10 (APP):Sindh Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi Saturday visited various projects being undertaken under the Lahore Heritage and Urban Regeneration (LHAR) initiative.
During the visit, he was accompanied by Rashid Nasrullah, Secretary to Mian Nawaz Sharif, prominent politician Mian Marghoob, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority (PWCA) Director General Najmus Saqib.
The visit included Neela Gumbad Square, Delhi Gate Spice Market, Shahi Hammam, and Wazir Khan Chowk. During the visit, the Governor received detailed briefings on the progress of ongoing conservation, rehabilitation, and urban improvement works aimed at restoring historic structures, revitalizing public spaces, and improving the urban environment of Lahore’s historic core.
Speaking on the occasion, (PWCA) DG Najmus Saqib stated that the LHAR initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to preserving Lahore’s historic identity while promoting sustainable urban regeneration.
He emphasized that the conservation of heritage sites, rehabilitation of traditional markets, and improvement of historic public spaces are essential for safeguarding the city’s cultural legacy and enhancing its appeal for residents and visitors alike.
The visit underscored the importance of institutional collaboration in protecting Lahore’s architectural heritage and revitalising its historic urban landscape. Through the LHAR initiative, PWCA and relevant government departments were working towards ensuring that Lahore’s historic spaces remain vibrant, accessible, and preserved for future generations.
