KARACHI, Jul 23 (APP): The Sindh Cabinet’s Finance Committee, co-chaired by Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani and Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar, approved significant development grants Wednesday while deferring several funding requests due to lack of details.
The committee sanctioned Rs. 115 million for the ongoing construction of the Government Degree College in Ghorabari, Thatta, and Rs. 248 million for installing water storage tanks and solar-powered pumps at Ex-Nara Canal in Sanghar district, said a news release on Wednesday.
It also approved Rs. 45 million to cover transport and installation costs for agricultural machinery gifted by China to the federal government, part of which is allocated to Sindh. However, ministers emphasized that such aid should be received directly at Karachi Port in the future to avoid avoidable costs.
A one-time payment of Rs 141 million was cleared to settle dues of retired employees of the Sindh Seed Corporation as per court directives. The committee also sanctioned Rs 300 million for the repatriation of illegal Afghan immigrants.
Meanwhile, a Rs 2 million grant request from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department for a football championship in Malir was rejected, with the department directed to organize the event within its budget. Grant requests for a Langar Khana at the Sachal Sarmast shrine and Rs 15 billion sought by the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board were deferred pending full documentation.
The ministers instructed departmental secretaries to submit complete working papers and financial details in future proposals to facilitate informed decision-making.
