HYDERABAD, Jul 24 (APP):A public hearing on human rights and labor laws was held at the committee room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sanghar on Thursday.
Jointly chaired by Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairperson Iqbal Detho and the Deputy Commissioner Sarah Javed, the session was attended by key officials and stakeholders including SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch, Additional Director Social Welfare Muslim Farooq, retired Session Judge Mir Safdar Talpur, Additional Director Labor Nawabshah Ahmed Deen, minority leader Rajesh Kumar Harsadani, Vice President of Federation of Commerce Sanghar Haji Yameen Qureshi, In-charge Women Complaint Cell Kausar Parveen Qaimkhani along with elected LG representatives and local factory owners.
In his address, SHRC Chairperson Iqbal Detho emphasized the importance of safeguarding labor rights in cotton factories, oil and gas companies and agricultural lands across the district. He highlighted the importance of full implementation of labor laws and urged that workers receive wages in accordance with the standards set by the Sindh government.
The hearing continued from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and saw participation from various stakeholders including government departments, industrial organizations, human rights groups, the Bar Association, civil society, sugar mills, labor unions and oil and gas company representatives.
The primary objective of the hearing was to assess the role of business entities in Sanghar in upholding human and labor rights and contributing to local social development.
The participants shared various proposals concerning human rights and called for enhanced efforts under CSR to promote community development.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Sarah Javed stressed the importance of promoting labor laws at the grass roots level to raise awareness among the public. “The world has become a global village and coordination has accelerated progress, therefore we all must move forward in society while respecting the laws and put an end to bonded labor.
