KARACHI, Nov 15 (APP): The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) has re-sealed Shah Medical Center established in North Nazimabad, for serious violations, illegal operation of the hospital and continuous non-compliance with SHCC’s orders.
This action was carried out after the SHCC received a complaint from the parents of a newborn baby girl, who died due to gross negligence at the hospital, a communique said.
An expert panel of SHCC, comprising independent specialists, conducted an inquiry, after hearing both the hospital administration and the complainant, the panel issued orders to the hospital to stop inpatient services. But, the hospital did not implement the orders and continue their operation without following the criteria set by SHCC.
Two days ago, the owner and staff of the hospital harassed SHCC officials including police personnel. They misbehaved, and obstructed official proceedings.
On this occasion, the hospital was partially sealed, and clear instructions were issued that admitted patients should be transferred within 24 hours and no new indoor patients should be admitted.
The hospital administration illegally reopened the hospital by breaking the seals and admitting critical patients in the Intensive Care Units (NICU, ICU), and that too without consulting any qualified consultant, which is tantamount to putting the lives of the patients at serious risk.
The SHCC officials, with the support of the district administration and police, implemented the orders despite resistance and completely sealed the hospital.
All the patients admitted in the hospital were provided proper assistance and were safely shifted to other hospitals.
The Sindh Healthcare Commission reiterates that patient safety is its top priority and all healthcare institutions in the province must adhere to the prescribed standards and rules.
The SHCC expects that the relevant administration and law enforcement agencies will play their full role in ensuring the sustainability of the hospital seal, so that the rule of law and official writ can be effectively upheld, and the innocent public should not be deceived under the pretext of treatment.
