HYDERABAD, Nov 20 (APP):A personal hearing session of brick kiln owners was held at the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) Regional Office Hyderabad on the directives of the Provincial Advisor for Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Dost Muhammad Rahimoon and Secretary Zubair Ahmed Channa.
According to a statement, the session was chaired by Director General SEPA Waqar Hussain Phulpoto. The meeting discussed and identified that various brick kilns were using substandard and pollution-causing fuels such as plastic, cloth and other waste materials, which result in harmful smoke and particle emissions into the environment.
Director General Waqar Hussain Phulpoto strictly directed the brick kiln association and owners to immediately stop using environmentally harmful fuel and switch to environment-friendly fuel. He further directed that brick kilns should be converted to zig-zag and other modern technologies to help reduce air pollution.
The DG SEPA also issued orders to the concerned officers to strictly monitor brick kilns and take legal action against those violating the regulations.
The personal hearing was also attended by President of the Brick Kiln Association Sindh Jaffar Khan as well as brick kiln owners from Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan and Hyderabad districts.
