SUKKUR, Oct 23 (APP):Director General of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Waqar Hussain Phulpoto on Thursday conducted a surprise visit to healthcare facilities, industrial units, and the Kheerthar Canal in Sukkur to review compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
During the visit, Phulpoto inspected Hira Medical Center and River City Hospital, where he reviewed hospital waste management systems and directed the hospital management to rectify shortcomings and ensure full compliance with the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014.
He also inspected industrial units, including Continental Biscuits Ltd., Sukkur Beverages (Pepsi) Ltd., and Allah Tawakkal Re-Rolling Steel Mill, and directed them to take corrective measures in accordance with the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014.
The Director General instructed the District In-charge SEPA to issue notices to non-compliant hospitals and industrial units and submit implementation reports.
He also visited the Kheerthar Canal, where he expressed concern over the discharge of untreated municipal wastewater and directed the municipal authority to take immediate corrective action.
The SEPA Director General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and urged all facilities to adopt environment-friendly practices to protect public health and the environment.
