KARACHI, Nov 24 (APP): The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, Monday offered fullest support for improvement of basic sports infrastructure and facilities, encouragement of players, promotion of sports activities and organizing international events in the country.
The Chairman of the committee Rana Mahmood ul Hassan and member Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti expressed the views while talking to media during a visit to National Stadium Karachi for reviewing the available facilities and future development plans of the stadium.
Chairman of the Committee Rana Mahmood ul Hassan and Senator Amir Waliuddin along with General Manager of the National Stadium, Arshad Khan and other officials attended the concluding and opening ceremonies of the scheduled matches of the Inaugural IMC over-40s T20 World Cup 2025 an international tournament scheduled from December 1 to 13, 2025 and organised by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA).
The Senate Committee Chairman Rana Mahmood ul Hassan, said that Karachi is the heart of Pakistan and it was encouraging to see international cricket stars in action representing 12 teams in the Inaugural IMC over-40 T20 World Cup 2025 here.
He appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Veteran Cricketers Association and organizer of the over-40 World Cup for adding more glare to the city of lights. He also lauded the Sindh government’s cooperation and vigilant security arrangements.
International Cricket activities have been fully revived in the country and it was evident from tours of different cricketing nations while Sri Lanka is still here in Pakistan. The enemies are busy in hatching nefarious conspiracies against the homeland but we are doing our best to support sports activities in the country, he added and also assured the fullest support on behalf of the Senate Committee for promotion and development of sports.
Senator Amir Waliuddin, on the occasion, emphasized “the significance of international events in development of sports and said that games of Hockey and Cricket are near to our hearts and we are always available for development of these sports.”
“The overall cricket situation in Pakistan is improving constantly and we are determined for the organization of ICC World Cup and Asia Cup tournaments in the country”, he said and stressed on scheduling more international matches in Karachi and preservation of the facade of the old National Stadium as a heritage building.
They, earlier in the match concluding ceremony, awarded shields and prizes to the best batsman and bowlers of the match between the South Africa and West Indies in which Proteas defeated the West Indies by 10 wickets. They also attended the opening ceremony of the Pakistan-UAE match, met with players of all the four teams and watched the matches.
