Seminar held at agriculture varsity to mark World Food Day

PESHAWAR, Oct 15 (APP):Youth Development Center of University of Agriculture, Peshawar, in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization, here on Wednesday arranged a seminar to mark World Food Day.
Celebration to mark FAO 80th anniversary was also part of the seminar that was attended by Vice Chancellor of agriculture university Prof. Dr. Jehan Bakht as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the seminar, Prof. Jehan Bakht welcomed the participants and highlighted that the basic objective of observing World Food Day is to address the impacts of climate change on food production and ensure sufficient food supply for the growing population.
He emphasized that with the rapid increase in population, it is essential to overcome the barriers affecting food availability. He pointed out that agricultural productivity is being affected by urbanization, construction on farmlands, and floods.
He stressed that it is the responsibility of every educated individual to raise awareness among the public, particularly farmers, about sustainable food production and conservation.
Kiyal Akmatbek, Head of FAO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighted the importance of rural development and food security. She underlined that modern digital tools and technologies can strengthen the connection between farmers, markets, and experts, enabling rural communities to produce and access food in a sustainable manner.
She further stated that collaboration and digital transformation are key to achieving a more resilient and food-secure future.
The seminar was attended by university faculty members, administrative officers and representatives of FAO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
