LAHORE, Jul 16 (APP):Punjab Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Department Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has ordered strict action against the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) executive engineer following an incident, where a man fell into an open manhole in Rasool Park, Shahdara.
According to the department’s spokesperson, the accident occurred due to an open drain dug for rainwater drainage at the construction site, with no warning boards installed. The secretary housing directed that the first information report (FIR) be registered against the contractor responsible for the site.
A comprehensive safety notification for construction sites was issued on June 23, mandating all WASA zones and contractors to strictly adhere to safety protocols, including barriers, warning boards and adequate lighting.
Mengal stressed that citizen safety remains the government’s top priority, warning of zero tolerance for negligence and promising strict action.
