Section 144 imposed, multiple public practices banned ahead of Muharram

HARIPUR, Jun 22 (APP):The district administration of Haripur has imposed section 144 across the district to maintain law and order, inter-sectarian harmony, and ensure public safety during Muharram-ul-Haram, along with restrictions on public activities and a ban on the movement and participation of 13 individuals, including religious scholars and speakers.
According to official notifications issued by the Deputy Commissioner Haripur Islah-ud-Din, the measures will remain in force for 60 days until August 16, 2026.
Under the order, the entry, movement, residence, public gatherings, religious speeches, participation in processions and Majalis, and other public activities of the listed individuals have been restricted in the district. The decision has been taken on the basis of reports from the District Police Officer and credible intelligence inputs to prevent any potential law and order situation.
The individuals include religious figures such as Talat Nazir, Allama Waheed Abbas Kazmi, Zakir Professor Abrar Hussain Shah, Zakir Khurshid Haider Jawadi, Zakir Chan Pir, Zakir Arshad Khan, Allama Qamar Abbas Kazmi, Maulana Tauheed-ur-Rehman Tauhidi, Maulana Abid Hussain Qureshi, Qari Ishfaq-ur-Rehman, Maulana Khurram Iqbal Farooqi, Qari Abdul Hameed, Maulana Mahmood-ur-Rehman, and Imam Jamia Masjid Khulafa-e-Rashideen Thanda Choha.
Separately, under Section 144, the district administration has also imposed restrictions on weapon display, motorcycle double riding, use of tinted glass vehicles, accommodation of suspicious or unrelated individuals in hotels and residential buildings, and unauthorized access to rooftops along procession and gathering routes.
Officials stated that these measures are aimed at ensuring peace, preventing any untoward incident, and maintaining inter-sectarian harmony during the holy month of Muharram.
Meanwhile, District Police Officer Haripur Shafiullah Gandapur chaired a meeting with custodians of Imam Bargahs and organizers of processions and Majalis, where detailed discussions were held on security arrangements, routes, timings, and SOPs.
The DPO said that foolproof security arrangements have been put in place across the district, and police personnel will remain deployed in the field to directly monitor all events. He emphasized that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of the police.
Religious leaders and organizers expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and assured full cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The district administration has urged citizens to cooperate fully with authorities and report any suspicious activity to help ensure a peaceful Muharram
