Science magazine adds Dr. Umair Haroon to advisory board

KARACHI, Nov 04 (APP):The country’s leading digital science magazine, Scientia Pakistan, has appointed Dr. Umair Haroon to its Advisory Board, strengthening its mission to advance science communication and public understanding of research in Pakistan.
The platform is led by founder and editor-in-chief Dr. Saadeqa Khan.
Dr. Umair Haroon, born in Karachi on November 22, 1982, holds an MBBS from Sindh Medical College, fellowship training in Forensic Medicine from Dow University of Health Sciences, and a Master’s in Public Health from SZABIST.
 He is recognized as the first Pakistani to earn certification from the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and has been an expert member of the National Academy of Young Scientists since 2015.
Beyond his science and public health credentials, Dr. Umair has an extensive media portfolio as a producer and director. His work includes documentaries, short films, and Pakistan’s first forensic-science-based television series. He is also a Media Goodwill Ambassador for the Indus Hospital & Health Network and has been active in promoting public health awareness through broadcast media.
Dr. Umair has received multiple awards for his work, including the Sitara-e-Pakistan Award (2021) for Best Producer, the CSR Award (2022) for Best Producer/Director of the Year, and recognition from the Karachi Bar Association in 2025 for his contributions to forensic and public awareness. He is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, United Producers Association, and the Arts Council of Pakistan.
Dr. Saadeqa Khan, who leads Scientia Pakistan, is an internationally published science journalist and former fellow of the National Press Foundation (Washington) and Falling Walls Foundation. Under her leadership, the magazine covers astronomy, public health, environment, and other scientific fields.
With Dr. Umair joining its advisory board, Scientia Pakistan aims to further deepen its engagement with scientific and media communities and broaden the reach of science journalism in the country.
