SUKKUR, Nov 10 (APP):The Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has expressed grave concern over the deplorable state of the Sukkur Express, urging the Federal Minister for Railways to intervene immediately. In a statement on Monday, SCCI President Muhammad Khalid Kakizai, Senior Vice President Amit Kumar, Vice President Malik Muhammad Owais Rais, and Railways Committee Convener Khurshid Azam Shamshi condemned the situation, citing widespread complaints from members and citizens.
They highlighted that AC and economy class coaches are frequently detached at Karachi Station, leaving passengers stranded and distressed. The train’s hygiene is abysmal like broken fans and lights, unusable washrooms, non functional doors, and infestations of insects plague the carriages. This is unacceptable for a train that serves as the lifeline for Sukkur and surrounding regions’ business community and residents, the statement said.
The chamber demanded that New coaches be allocated for the Sukkur Express for up and down, a dedicated operator lift be installed at Rohri Station for elderly and disabled passengers and Goods offices in Rohri and Sukkur be reopened immediately.
They said that they trust the Federal Railways Minister will prioritise these demands and restore dignity to Pakistan Railways’ services.
