SCCI, UNDP conduct session on ‘Protecting HRs, Promoting Responsible Business Practices’

PESHAWAR, Nov 07 (APP):Legal experts and representatives of non-governmental organizations urged the business community to fully adhere with international treaties with regard to Human Rights to reap the trade benefits of the EU’s GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus) status.
Speakers said Pakistan is a signatory of various international protocols that have been made mandatory to follow all international obligations.
They called for strict implementation of all human rights to promote trade and business and avail benefits under all international treaties.
Experts were speaking during a session jointly organised by the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and UNDP on “Protecting Human Rights and Promoting Responsible Business Practices”, here at the chamber house.
The session was chaired by SCCI Senior Vice President Muhammad Nadeem.
SCCI members Rashid Iqbal Siddiqui, Faiz Rasool, Fazl e Wahid, WCCIP President Qurtul Ain, Secretary General SCCI Muqtasid Ahsan, traders and others.
Officials from UNDP, legal experts, members of the business community and others were present in a large number.
In his opening remarks, SCCI SVP Muhammad Nadeem said the business community is fully committed to all international protocols and conventions with regard to protecting human rights and promoting business.
However, he emphasized, it is essential to properly raise awareness among the business community regarding these treaties.
Muhammad Nadeem highlighted ordeals and challenges being faced by businessmen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
SCCI SVP called for incentivizing industries to promptly resolve allied issues to enhance trade and export and bring economic stability and turnaround in the country.
Earlier, UNDP officials through online link enlightened the participants regarding various international conventions and protocols with regard to Human Rights and Business and stressed the need for full adherence with them to avail benefit of GSP+ Status granted by European Union to Pakistan.
