Sargodha University hosts China Fellowship Session on nuclear energy, climate change

SARGODHA, Nov 05 (APP):The Department of International Relations, in collaboration with the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS), organised the fourth session of the China Fellowship Program at the University of Sargodha.
The session, titled “Nuclear Energy and China’s Contribution Towards Achieving Net Zero Emissions and Combating Climate Change,” gathered scholars, fellowship participants, faculty members, and students for a substantive academic discussion.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid, Consultant on Science Communication and Diplomacy and Coordinator at the Policy Research Center (OIC-COMSTECH), highlighted China’s transition towards clean and sustainable energy solutions. He discussed the country’s growing reliance on nuclear energy as part of its strategy to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Dr. Khurshid also underlined the importance of science diplomacy and technological cooperation among Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries to advance global climate goals.
Earlier, Syed Imran Abbas, Assistant Professor, Department of International Relations, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of academic platforms that engage students in global debates on sustainability and policy development.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, Director, PICS, appreciated the participants’ contributions and reiterated the University of Sargodha’s commitment to promoting academic exchange and policy-oriented research. He noted that the fellowship program provides valuable opportunities for young scholars to explore emerging issues in energy, environment, and international cooperation.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion on the future of nuclear energy, renewable technologies, and collaborative climate policies. The session was attended by Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed, Chairperson, Department of International Relations, Faculty and students.
