SARGODHA, Oct 22 (APP):The University of Sargodha (UoS) organised a cascading training session titled “Bridging Knowledge and Innovation: STEM Capacity Building Training Program” under the Pak-UK Education Gateway, an initiative jointly launched by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the British Council Pakistan.
The training was conducted by Dr. Naunain Mehmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, and Dr. Muhammad Samraiz, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics.
The program aimed to enhance teaching effectiveness and promote innovative and research-driven practices in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
The key themes of the training included challenges in STEM teaching, project-based learning (PBL) and its relevance to STEM education, embedding work-integrated learning and industry collaboration, student engagement, and enhancing teaching skills through a microteaching approach.
The interactive sessions featured engaging hands-on activities such as bridge building, tower construction, quizzes via menti.com, and car prototype replication.
These activities provided participants with a practical understanding of the PBL methodology, enabling them to experience the full process from planning and designing to implementation and evaluation reflecting real-world STEM problem-solving.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Vice Chancellor, University of Sargodha, graced the closing ceremony and awarded certificates to participating faculty members from the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the organizers and trainers for their commitment to enhancing faculty capacity, promoting gender equity, and advancing innovation in teaching and learning.
He emphasized that such initiatives are instrumental in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and industry relevance within Pakistan’s higher education sector.
