MULTAN, Dec 23 (APP):The sale of Christmas trees increased manifold in the city ahead of Christmas Day, to be celebrated on December 25.
Markets were witnessing a rush of buyers, particularly from the Christian community, purchasing decorative Christmas trees. Shopkeepers report strong demand in major commercial areas, including the Cantonment.
Hassan, a trader dealing in decorative items, said citizens are actively visiting markets to buy Christmas trees and related ornaments. He added that he has received several advance orders for specially decorated trees.
According to him, trees ranging from one foot to 12 feet in height are in high demand. Prices range between Rs2,500 and Rs30,000, depending on size and decorative work.
Hyacinth Peter, a Christian community activist, said evergreen trees hold special religious and cultural significance. He explained that pine, spruce, and fir trees are traditionally used for Christmas decorations.
He added that some families hang evergreen branches over doors and windows during the festive season. Peter said evergreen trees symbolize life, rebirth, and strength during harsh winter months.
He further noted that many Christians believe evergreen trees protect homes from evil spirits and illnesses. Traditionally, some families also place gifts under the trees at night for the poor, he added.
