RAWALPINDI, Oct 16 (APP): The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) organized a camp on Thursday in the Ratta Amral area, Union Council 1, to raise awareness among the masses about the importance of cleanliness and the prevention of smog.
According to a RWMC spokesman, the RWMC’s communication and social mobilization team distributed pamphlets emphasizing the importance and effectiveness of cleanliness, as well as the hazards of smog.
The teams also asked the residents to ensure the spraying of water to prevent dust and to use masks and glasses.
He stated that promoting tree plantation was vital for reducing smog and mitigating environmental pollution.
In a message, RWMC has appealed to the people not to burn waste and chemicals in the open, as they are the major cause of smog.
The message adds that burning garbage is a legal offence, as smoke and dust contribute to smog, which is harmful to both the environment and human health.
In case of any cleanliness-related complaint, the citizens were advised to contact the helpline 1139.
