LAHORE, Nov 04 (APP): Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) organized an anti-smog awareness walk in the industrial area of Ravi City to highlight measures for preventing smog and air pollution.
The walk was led by officials from RUDA and the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
Addressing the participants, RUDA Deputy Director Environment Nadia Tahir urged the public not to burn crop residue, emphasizing that such practices are a significant contributor to smog formation.
RUDA and EPA officials informed the public about major smog contributors, including the burning of garbage, old tyres, leather waste, smoke-emitting vehicles, substandard fuel used in kilns, and the burning of polythene bags, paddy, and sugarcane residues. All of these activities release harmful smoke that contributes to smog.
Deputy Director Nadia Tahir stated that RUDA is actively conducting operations to curb air pollution and other smog-inducing activities in Ravi City. She also mentioned that the Government of Punjab has imposed a complete ban on activities that lead to smog, such as burning crop residues, industrial emissions, and the burning of municipal waste, tyres, and plastic materials.
She further emphasized that, in line with the Punjab government’s directives, all activities harmful to public health and the environment are banned in Ravi City. The purpose of the walk was to educate the public about smog prevention and raise awareness about the severity of the issue.
