LAHORE, Dec 28 (APP):Significant progress has been made in the plantation project at the Mahmood Booti dumping site under the Ring Road Rehabilitation initiative.
RUDA official sources told APP that due to the presence of seven protective layers at the dumping site, the plantation of large trees will be avoided. Instead, shallow-rooted trees, grasses, and selected shrubs will be planted to ensure environmental safety.
Once the old dumping area was fully covered, plantation will begin in a phased manner. The project will be implemented over an area of approximately 42 acres and was expected to significantly reduce air pollution and enhance the aesthetic appeal of areas adjacent to the Ring Road.
RUDA’s environment and horticulture teams were actively working on the project. The first phase was scheduled for completion by February 2026, while formal plantation will commence in March 2026.
