RAWALPINDI, Oct 22 (APP):The Measles/Rubella Vaccination Campaign in Rawalpindi has reached over 300,000 kids making more than one-third of the target in 6 days.
Launched on October 17 by the District Health Authority, the 12-day drive aims to protect 8,22,766 children aged 6 months to 5 years from these dangerous diseases.
According to the details received by APP, the mobile teams have been busy visiting homes, schools, and remote areas while fixed teams at health centers administering the vaccine.
A total of 703 teams including 486 mobile teams have been deployed for field visits to schools and houses with a target to vaccinate 736,366 kids.
The 217 fixed teams have been deployed at health centers including hospitals and others to target 86,400 kids who come to them.
The constituent 1,406 health workers include vaccinators and helpers whereas 1,189 are the community mobilizers to facilitate the families, guide the community and campaign for the drive. Last but important 212 are the supervisors to check that everything runs smooth.
Dr. Ehsan Ghani, CEO Health in a brief interaction with APP appreciated the community response during the ongoing drive.
“We’re seeing encouraging community support and our 2,797 workers are working diligently”, he said.
He urged the parents to head to a nearby health center or wait for a mobile team to vaccinate their kids.
“It is quick, safe and free”, Dr Ghani said and called for joint efforts in building Rawalpindi a healthier city. 395
