MULTAN, Nov 05 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed Rs. 9.6 million fine on 579 food points in Multan district for violations of food safety rules during October 2025.
The PFA released its performance report for the month, here on Wednesday. According to the report, PFA teams carried out inspections of 5,400 food points across Multan during the month. As part of the drive, 2,347 food business operators were served improvement notices for non-compliance with hygiene standards, while 579 food outlets faced fines Rs. 9.6 million for various violations.
In addition, 11 cases were registered against food business owners involved in adulteration and counterfeiting, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The production of seven food production units was halted till improvements.
During these operations, PFA teams discarded a significant quantity of substandard and hazardous food items, including 3,700 liters of adulterated milk, 2,600 kilograms of unwholesome meat, 250 liters of substandard beverages, 1,500 sachets of gutka, 600 kilograms of fungus-infested pickles, 650 kilograms of expired food items and 43 kilograms of adulterated spices.
The Resource and Licensing Wing also issued 77 new licenses to food-related businesses.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General PFA, Muhammad Asim Javed, stated that ensuring the safety and quality of food to citizens was foremost responsibility.
He urged the citizens to report any food-related complaints directly to the Punjab Food Authority Helpline at 1223.
