Rs 77.5m fine imposed, 728 FIRs registered for traffic rules violations in Rawalpindi Dist last month

RAWALPINDI, Jul 09 (APP):Superintendent of Police Traffic Rawalpindi Munir Hashmi on Wednesday said that a fine of Rs 77.5 million was imposed, with 728 first information reports (FIRs) were registered for violation of traffic rules across the district during the last month.
A total of 148,600 vehicles were checked by the traffic police across the district during the period, he told the sixth meeting of the District Coordination Committee.
The committee, which met under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Hassan Tariq, reviewed the traffic flow in the city and the obstacles in its way.
Representatives of Police, Education, Health, Municipal Corporation, Water and Sanitation Agency, Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Anti-Narcotics, Civil Defence and other departments concerned attended the meeting.
The committee also reviewed the monthly performance of other government departments in the district.
The Civil Defence official informed the meeting that 118 points were checked and 15 of them were sealed for violation of laws, while first information reports (FIRs) were registered against eight during the period under review.
About 30 FIRs were also registered to eradicate the menace of begging and 15 for removal of encroachments in the city, he said.
A representative of the Anti-Narcotics Department told the meeting that 212 cases were registered last month  with 21 accused arrested and 255 kilogram drugs  recovered.
The Customs Department official said that three teams of the department checked some 450 vehicles and impounded seven of them during the drive against non-custom paid vehicles in the previous month.
ADCG Hassan Tariq on the occasion said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz wanted the committee to be fully active. Every department would have to improve their performance and the officials, he added, asking the officials to come to the next meeting with proper preparation.
He said that the incumbent government believed in practical measures.
