FAISALABAD, Nov 29 (APP): Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar announced that the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved Rs.4.35 billion for the establishment of landfill sites in two districts, including a large-scale modern landfill facility in Faisalabad on Jaranwala Road at Lakhwana.
He said this development marks a significant breakthrough in strengthening the city’s solid waste management system.
During a meeting, he shared that the Faisalabad landfill site would be constructed on 150 acres of land with a daily dumping capacity of 1,100 tons of solid waste. The project also includes a comprehensive waste recycling component, aimed at transforming garbage into reusable resources and reducing environmental hazards.
He highlighted that Faisalabad has long lacked a properly planned landfill site, and PDWP’s approval of funds represents an important step toward environmentally safe disposal of municipal waste. Work on the project will commence shortly according to the approved design and master plan, and the facility will be completed within the stipulated timeframe following prescribed guidelines.
Raja Jahangir Anwar expressed confidence that the project will improve sanitation standards, minimize open dumping and waste burning, and enhance the overall environmental health of Faisalabad and surrounding areas. He added that the modern landfill facility will also support future urban expansion and industrial growth by ensuring environmentally compliant waste disposal mechanisms. The government remains fully committed to providing sustainable infrastructure for clean and livable cities across the province.
