LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP):On the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a province-wide crackdown against profiteers and hoarders continued to ensure the availability of essential commodities at official rates.
According to a spokesperson of the Department of Price Control and Commodities Management, inspections were conducted at 608,670 locations across Punjab during the past 24 hours. Action was taken against 15,706 profiteers, resulting in fines amounting to Rs. 3.32 million, while seven FIRs were registered and 194 persons involved in hoarding were arrested.
The spokesperson said that the performance of price control magistrates was being monitored daily through geo-tagging to ensure strict enforcement of price regulations and the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. He added that there was sufficient stock of sugar in the province, which was being sold in markets at prices ranging between Rs. 180 and Rs. 200 per kilogram. A crackdown against the sugar mafia was also continuing, under which 498 cases had been registered and 3,537 sugar hoarders arrested, while fines totaling Rs. 49.8 million had been imposed.
The spokesperson said that the Punjab government would show zero tolerance toward profiteering and hoarding, and that all violators would face strict legal action under the law.
