LAHORE, Dec 02 (APP): A high-level coordination meeting was held at the Pakistan Railways Headquarters Lahore to review the proposed sustainable development plan for areas surrounding the Lahore Railway Station.
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, while Director General LDA Tahir Farooq briefed participants on the proposed redevelopment plan. According to the briefing, a comprehensive development project worth Rs. 2 billion will be executed within a 3-kilometer radius of the Lahore Railway Station under the guidance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The project aims to uplift the station and its adjoining localities—including Misri Shah, Ek Moriya, Do Moriya Pul, and Azadi Chowk—through sustainable development initiatives.
The plan includes facade improvements around Ek Moriya and Do Moriya bridges, removal of encroachments in old and congested areas to improve traffic flow, and complete cleanliness around the station. Walkways, green belts, and recreational spaces will be established to enhance the urban environment. Additionally, a dedicated parking zone, pedestrian pathways, sitting areas, and green spaces will be developed in front of the railway station. DG LDA highlighted that the redevelopment will greatly facilitate passengers and residents alike.
Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi lauded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision for sustainable development, calling the project a “game changer” for the entire area. He also proposed linking the Orange Line Metro Train stop directly with the Lahore Railway Station to improve commuter connectivity.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer TEPA, Project Director LDA, senior officials of LDA and TEPA, the COO Lahore Railway Station, and senior officers from Pakistan Railways.
