LAHORE, Jun 22 (APP): The Punjab government has taken an important step towards environmental protection. In this regard, five areas of the city has been selected including Adda Plot, Johar Town, Sundar, Jallo and Bata Pur areas.
A total of $22 million would be spent on converting these areas into green cover through forestation. In this connection, Finance Assessment Committee has given the approval and PHA has also been instructed to send Concept Papers for Green Climate Fund.
According to Environmental Department official sources, furthermore, more than 200 green areas have been identified which will be developed in the next few months. Over 65 areas, which are considered traffic choking points, will be specially focused to reduce the effects of smoke and toxic gases.
A total of $22 million will be spent on green area development under the project. The project includes funding from international organizations, while the Punjab government will also provide 10 percent funding for it.
According to sources, this project will not only improve the environmental quality of the city but also have a positive impact on the health of citizens. Under the project, local tree species will be planted so that environmentally friendly and sustainable greenery can be grown.
