LAHORE, Aug 10 (APP): The Punjab government has announced the route of a modern and eco-friendly electric tram service in Lahore city.
Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) sources told APP that in the first phase, the electric tram will run on the route from Harbanspura to Thokar Niaz Baig.
The track of the electric tram will be built on the left bank of Canal Road so that there is minimal disruption to traffic.
The road will be widened near the tram stops for the convenience of passengers. To improve the flow of traffic, the underpasses of Canal Road will be converted into single lanes and a plan to shift the Jail Road underpass to one side is also under consideration.
The tram, consisting of three units imported from China, runs on electricity and can travel 25 km to 27 km on just 10 minutes of charging. It will have a capacity of 250 passengers, however, up to 300 people can travel in it at a time.
