Ringleader of drug gang arrested in injured condition after shootout with CCD
ATTOCK, Sep 2 (APP):A ringleader of notorious drug-trafficking gang was arrested on Wednesday in injured condition after a shootout with Crime Control Department (CCD) in the limits of Saddar Attock police station.
According to police, the CCD team came under indiscriminate fire from members of the gang in the area of Mauza Kahotra.
Police retaliated, triggering a gunbattle during which the gang’s alleged ringleader, Sarfaraz Hussain Shah, was wounded. Police said Sarfaraz was hit by a bullet allegedly fired by one of his own accomplices.
He was subsequently overpowered and arrested by the police team. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession, police said.
Police said the arrested suspect was a known criminal with a previous record in several cases involving drug trafficking, illegal weapons and encounters with police.
The accomplice who allegedly opened fire on the CCD team managed to escape under the cover of darkness, prompting police to launch a search operation in the surrounding area.
Officials said further investigation was under way to determine the gang’s activities, identify its other members and establish the circumstances leading to the armed confrontation.
