Researchers urged to reduce dependence on foreign medicines

LAHORE, Oct 14 (APP):Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir has urged researchers to play their role in addressing Pakistan’s public health challenges and reducing the country’s reliance on foreign medicines and vaccines.
He expressed these views while addressing the closing ceremony of the 8th International Conference on Applied Zoology (ICAZ-2025) organized by the Punjab University Institute of Zoology in collaboration with the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan and Government College University, Faisalabad, at Al-Razi Hall here on Tuesday.
The event was attended by PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam, Vice Chairperson of the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan Dr Farhat Jabeen, Director Institute of Zoology Dr Nabeela Ruhi, Organizing Secretary Dr Azhar Rasool, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, researchers, scientists, and students.
Khawaja Imran Nazir congratulated the organizers for holding an informative and meaningful conference aligned with Pakistan’s development needs. He said Pakistan had overcome serious economic challenges and emerged stronger through difficult reforms. The minister noted that the government had prioritized national interest over politics and steered the country toward stability.
He said the country’s global standing had improved due to effective governance and national unity, adding that the sacrifices of the armed forces had ensured peace and security. He emphasized that the youth of Pakistan are highly capable and must be provided with hope and encouragement.
The minister called for promoting a positive image of Pakistan on social media and discouraging negativity.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said the conference aimed to provide a dynamic platform for scientists to collaborate on solutions for national challenges, especially in food security, health sciences, and cotton research. He said Pakistan’s development and defense were deeply connected with education and knowledge.
GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam highlighted the need for greater research funding, stressing that universities must take the lead in generating new knowledge and fostering academic cooperation.
Other speakers, including Dr Nabeela Ruhi, Dr Farhat Jabeen, and Dr Ahmad Islam, also addressed the conference. As part of PU’s 144th Founders’ Day celebrations, a cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the occasion.
