ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) on Monday regrettably announced the demise of Nawab, a majestic male leopard rescued from Hatila Balla, District Jhelum, Valley, Ghazi Chump, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
On receipt of a distress call from the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department, IWMB’s rescue team swiftly responded and sent a team to provide first aid to the injured leopard. Nawab was subsequently shifted to a veterinary clinic for further treatment in Islamabad, IWMB spokesman Omer Bilal said.
He added that X-ray reports revealed critical spinal injuries, and subsequent medical examinations revealed multiple bullet wounds, causing severe internal damage. Despite best efforts, Nawab succumbed to his injuries.
Nawab weighed 63 kg and was estimated to be six and a half years old. He was a healthy, beautiful animal before he was shot. His tragic demise highlights the urgent need for better conservation efforts and enhanced protection of our endangered wildlife.
IWMB reiterates its commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s precious wildlife from hunters and poachers and urges the public to report any wildlife distress calls to our dedicated helpline.
