RAWALPINDI, Dec 04 (APP): A comprehensive winter preparedness and snowfall drill was conducted at Patriata Chairlift in New Murree on Thursday, involving Rescue 1122 and the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), officials said.
The exercise reviewed the practical capabilities of all departments in responding to emergencies during the winter season.
Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, overseeing the drill, expressed satisfaction over the readiness of all participating departments, which included the Chief Traffic Officer, Assistant Commissioner Murree, SP Motorway Police, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122, Punjab Highway Department, Health Department, Civil Defence, TDCP and heads of various district and tehsil departments.
During the exercise, teams demonstrated height-rescue techniques to evacuate tourists stranded in cable cars or chairlifts, administered first aid, conducted firefighting operations, ensured route clearance during heavy crowds, and practised response procedures for snowfall-related emergencies.
Deputy Commissioner Shirazi said Murree attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, making inter-departmental coordination and timely response crucial.
“Our top priority is the safety of citizens and tourists, and today’s exercises have proven that all departments can respond effectively through joint action,” he stated, adding that all facilitation centres would remain fully operational during snowfall.
TDCP Deputy General Manager Moazzam Nazir and the Assistant Commissioner Murree praised the coordination and performance of participating departments, highlighting that such drills enhance mutual cooperation and overall emergency response capabilities.
