LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP): Punjab Rescue-1122 organized a series of public awareness activities across the province in connection with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. According to the Rescue Punjab spokesperson, the initiatives aim to highlight rising road accident trends and promote safe driving practices.
Secretary Emergency Services Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that 75 percent of road accidents in Punjab involve motorcycles, terming the situation alarming. He noted that riding motorcycles in high-speed lanes between vehicles and exceeding the speed limit of 50 km per hour are among the most dangerous behaviours contributing to fatal crashes.
Dr. Rizwan shared that 3,967 people lost their lives in road accidents in 2023, 4,139 in 2024, and 4,201 deaths have been reported so far in 2025, describing this upward trend as highly concerning. He emphasized that reducing accidents requires collective efforts from all stakeholders, including government departments, parents, teachers, and the community.
He said that while helmets and rear-view mirrors are essential, overspeeding and weaving between vehicles remain life-threatening practices that must be discouraged.
Dr. Rizwan added that Rescue 1122 is committed to road safety awareness and will continue efforts to prevent accidents through community engagement and education initiatives.
