LAHORE, Jul 03 (APP):Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that Rescue 1122 teams are always prepared in advance to face every challenge, whether it be Muharram-related emergencies or natural disasters like floods.
During his visit to Rescue Headquarters on Thursday, the provincial minister reviewed the arrangements made for Muharram-ul-Haram and praised the efficiency and dedication of the rescue teams. He especially lauded Khurram Ramzan, a rescuer from Attock, for heroically saving a man trapped in the river. As a token of appreciation, the minister announced an additional salary reward for the rescuer.
Khawaja Salman Rafique held a video link conversation with the Rescue 1122 Water and Rescue Team in Attock and commended their bravery. He stated that, following the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab’s Emergency Services Department is delivering the highest standard of services to the public.
“Rescue 1122 teams have consistently remained on high alert during Muharram and flood seasons in past years. This year too, preparations are comprehensive,” he said, adding that rescue and flood response teams have already been deployed in vulnerable districts including Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur. Special rescue boats have also been stationed in Mianwali to assist zaireen (pilgrims) crossing the river.
“I will be out in the field with our rescuers during Muharram and flood operations,” the minister affirmed.
Secretary Emergency Services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, briefed the minister on current preparations, stating that Rescue 1122 has mobilized 12,000 rescuers, 815 ambulances, 2,166 motorbikes, 316 specialized vehicles, and over 1,000 special rescue posts across Punjab for Muharram.
For flood preparedness, 850 boat engines, 1,300 life jackets, 156 scuba sets, and other essential equipment are on alert. Mock drills are ongoing, and coordination with district administrations has been completed. Rescue Scouts and Community Emergency Response Teams have also been placed on high alert in potentially affected areas.
