Relief measures in progress for flood-affected areas

LAHORE, Aug 07 (APP):The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab is actively engaged in relief efforts in the flood-affected low-lying areas of the Indus River. Currently, there is a moderate flood situation at Chashma and Taunsa, impacting villages adjacent to the river in Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, and Tehsil Kot Chitta. Five villages have been submerged by floodwater.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, in a statement, reported that due to the proactive measures taken by PDMA and the administration, there has been no loss of life or property. Timely rescue operations ensured the safety of citizens and their livestock. Eight boats and 34 rescue workers are involved in the ongoing relief activities. So far, 61 people and over 650 cattle have been relocated to safe areas.
The PDMA has also provided food and free transportation to the affected individuals, he said. Additionally, disease prevention drugs and vaccination facilities have been made available for the cattle, he informed. Administrative officers remain on the ground to oversee the operations, which will continue until the complete evacuation and rehabilitation of the affected citizens, he said. Protection of life and property of people is the first responsibility, he added.
