RAWALPINDI, Jul 29 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak on Tuesday said that in the light of the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, regulations had been formed for the price of sugar.
Under the regulations, the deputy commissioners would no fix wholesale price of sugar, while ex-mill and retail prices of the commodity had already been announced as Rs 165 and Rs 173 per kg respectively, the commissioner said while chairing a meeting.
However, the DCs would depute their representatives in two shifts at all the mills to regulate the supply of sugar, he added.
The DC’s representative team, he said, would comprise officers of Revenue, DFC, and Federal Board of Revenue to check exactly that how much supply was sold to which person on daily basis.
Local dealers would be given priority to ensure sugar supply for domestic use, the commissioner said.
He said that action would be taken against the sugar mills under the Punjab Price Control of Commodities Act 2024 for non-cooperation.
Meanwhile, the meeting was apprised that special price magistrates were active in field to ensure availability of sugar on notified rate in open market.
Regarding the actions in the last 24 hours, it was told that during the checking at various places across the division, 63 violations were reported with Rs 218,000 fine imposed, 10 persons arrested and three buildings sealed.
In the Rawalpindi District, 11 violations were reported during inspections, resulting in imposition of Rs 104,500 fine, arrest of four persons and sealing of three premises.
Likewise, during the checking in Attock District, Rs 21,500 fine was imposed over 15 violations, while in the Jhelum District, two persons were arrested and Rs 30,000 fine was imposed for 17 violations.
Similarly, in the Chakwal District, six persons were fined of Rs 14,500 and one arrested, while Rs 48,000 fine was imposed and three persons nabbed over violations at 12 points, in the Murree District .
