KARACHI, Oct 16 (APP):The Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC), operated by Barrick Mining Corporation, hosted a delegation from the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) to explore opportunities for local business participation and sustainable economic partnership in the Reko Diq project.
The delegation, led by QCCI President Muhammad Ayub and Vice President Nasir Khan, included prominent businessmen from across Balochistan, said a news release issued here on Thursday.
Welcoming the visitors, RDMC Country Manager Zarrar Jamali highlighted the scale and transformative potential of the Reko Diq project, calling it a milestone for both Balochistan and Pakistan’s mining sector. He said RDMC is committed to building an inclusive and competitive supply chain that gives local businesses equal opportunities to participate.
QCCI President Muhammad Ayub appreciated RDMC’s outreach and said the Chamber aims to strengthen collaboration with the company to promote shared growth in Balochistan. “Unlike larger cities such as Lahore or Karachi, Balochistan has a limited industrial base. We hope RDMC’s local procurement policy will help bridge that gap and empower local businesses,” he added.
Vice President Nasir Khan praised RDMC’s social development efforts, describing them as “exceptional,” and lauded the company’s inclusive engagement with local communities.
Clemens Engelbrecht, RDMC’s Head of Supply Chain and Commercial, said the company prioritizes sustainable partnerships with local vendors that align with its standards of quality, safety, and integrity. “Supporting local businesses in a sustainable and community-focused way is central to Barrick’s philosophy,” he said, adding that RDMC aims to strengthen Balochistan’s long-term supply chain capacity as Reko Diq develops into Pakistan’s largest copper and gold mine.
Operating under a joint venture with the governments of Balochistan and Pakistan, RDMC says it is committed to making Reko Diq a model of responsible mining through transparency, stakeholder engagement, and lasting partnerships with local enterprises.
