RAWALPINDI, Dec 17 (APP):The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) sealed several illegal commercial properties in Sherpao Colony and Muhalla Mohan Pura as part of an enforcement drive against unauthorised construction, the RDA spokesman said on Wednesday.
Acting on the directions of Director General (DG) RDA Kinza Murtaza, the RDA Enforcement Squad took action at properties No. 2, 2-A and Plot No. 61, sealing premises including a Bank Alfalah outlet, a showroom, an under-construction building and other commercial units.
The operation was carried out under the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations, 2021.
According to the authority, the property owners, Imran Sheikh and Sheikh Muhammad Masood, had constructed buildings without obtaining the requisite approvals and no-objection certificates (NOCs).
The spokesman said the director general had directed the enforcement squad to act strictly against encroachments and illegal residential-cum-commercial activities “without fear or favour”.
She has also ordered a comprehensive survey of fees related to approvals of illegal buildings, commercialization and complementary maps and plans, with a view to regularising unauthorised residential-cum-commercial structures within RDA-controlled areas.
He said the authority was fully committed to ensuring orderly urban development and effective regulation of the city and urged the public to assume moral responsibility, cooperate with the RDA and voluntarily remove encroachments to avoid future losses.
The operation was conducted by Building Inspector Mukhtar Ahmad and Building Superintendent Arslan Shaukat, with support from RDA enforcement staff and police from Waris Khan and Ganjmandi police stations.
