RDA, MMP sign MoU to develop modern standards in urban planning

RAWALPINDI, Aug 27 (APP): On the directives of the Secretary, Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department (HUD&PHE), Capt (Retd) Noor ul Ameen Mengal, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mott MacDonald Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd (MMP) to develop a comprehensive land use plan and corridor development strategy for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR).
The MoU was formally signed by the Chief Planner of RDA and representatives of MMP Pvt. Ltd., marking a significant step toward the city’s sustainable and planned growth.
Spanning over a 500-meter-wide strip along a 38 km stretch of the RRR, this initiative represents Pakistan’s first cutting-edge, corridor-based urban development model.
The Director General of RDA, Kinza Murtaza, stated that this landmark initiative will redefine Rawalpindi’s urban future, aiming to provide world-class facilities, reduce urban sprawl, and make the city more livable and sustainable for future generations.
The strategy seeks to transform the corridor into a hub of sustainable, inclusive, and balanced development, focusing on residential, commercial, and institutional growth while alleviating chronic traffic congestion.
Emphasising modern urban design and livability, the development envisions high-quality infrastructure and public services.
By leveraging global best practices, the DG RDA said that the project will enhance connectivity, create economic opportunities, and significantly improve the quality of life for citizens.
The RDA-MMP collaboration signifies a proactive step toward positioning Rawalpindi as a benchmark for integrated urban planning and development across Pakistan.
The Chief Planner RDA, Muhammad Tahir Meo, Director Land Ghazanfer Ali Awan, Director Building Control, Samiuallah Niazi, Director MP&TE Atif Mahmood Chaudhry, other RDA officers and representatives of MMP Pvt. Ltd were also present.
