RAWALPINDI, Nov 24 (APP):The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), on the directions of its Director General, Kinza Murtaza, on Monday conducted major anti-encroachment operations in several parts of the city, dismantling a number of illegal structures
and sealing multiple unlawful establishments.
According to an RDA spokesperson, the Enforcement Squad, assisted by the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), City Traffic Police and Waris Khan Police Station, carried out a large operation along Tipu Road, from Moti Mehal to Sir Syed Chowk.
Illegal and unauthorised structures, including tandoors, sheds and platforms erected in front of hotels, shops and schools, were demolished with the help of heavy machinery.
In a separate action, the enforcement squad sealed an illegally constructed market in Mohanpura, Dar-e-Arqam School and Step College in the Asghar Mall Scheme, as well as Fatima Distributor Medicine and a warehouse in the Saidpur Housing Scheme.
The spokesperson said the properties had been built without mandatory approvals or No Objection Certificates (NOCs), in violation of the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2021.
He added that DG RDA Kinza Murtaza had directed the Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing to take strict action against encroachments and illegal residential-cum-commercial activities “without fear or favour”. She had also instructed the wing to conduct a comprehensive survey of fees related to the approval and regularization of unauthorized structures within RDA-controlled areas.
The DG emphasized that RDA remained committed to planned urban development and effective regulation, urging citizens to cooperate with the Authority and voluntarily remove encroachments to avoid losses during enforcement actions.
