RAWALPINDI, Apr 08 (APP):The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Wednesday welcomed the Iran–United States ceasefire, praising Pakistan’s civil and military leadership for their role in facilitating the development.
In a joint statement, RCCI President Usman Shaukat and Group Leader Sohail Altaf congratulated Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on what they described as decisive and visionary leadership in helping secure a two-week ceasefire.
They said Pakistan’s timely diplomatic efforts had contributed to de-escalation at a time when regional tensions were rising, and the situation risked turning into a major crisis. The development, they added, reflected Pakistan’s growing role as a responsible and influential country on the global stage.
The RCCI leaders expressed optimism about the outcome of the Islamabad agreement and future negotiations aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
They also urged the government to review temporary measures introduced in response to the prevailing situation and its economic impact, including reduced business hours, work-from-home arrangements, speed restrictions and increases in petroleum and LPG prices.
The business community hoped that the prime minister and his economic team would reassess these steps and announce measures to support business activity and economic recovery, the statement said.
